Description

Network Engineer – Infrastructure

2 Positions

Location: Singapore (WFH)

#LI-Remote

DriveNets, a leader in cloud-native networking software and network disaggregation solutions, offers communications service providers and cloud providers a radical new way to build networks and drive networks. By disrupting the fundamental scaling and economic characteristics of the Internet, DriveNets enables carriers to build networks like clouds.

Members of the DriveNets’ Infrastructure Operations team are accountable for the end-to-end availability, reliability, and performance of our growing infrastructure. Additionally, through the development of mature tools, automation, and observability, we work directly with R&D, Product, and other Infrastructure teams to introduce reliable networking services, features, and capacity to the delight of our customers.

 What We’re Looking For:

We’re looking to add Network Engineers that function in a “Tier 3” engineering and operations capacity as part of an expanding global team. With a customer-first mindset, they will be responsible for managing complex traffic events and responding as subject matter experts to escalations, critical alerts, and incidents on the DriveNets platform. They will act as stakeholders in the advancement of architecture, design, and telemetry systems working directly and collaboratively with partner Infrastructure teams, R&D, and Product.

They are drawn to disruptive technology and are excited by the idea of building something new. They can balance business velocity with clever design and implementation choices and are unafraid to provide constructive feedback to peers and any level of leadership in support of our mission.

While the role requires a great deal of routing and switching expertise, the successful candidate approaches their tasks with automation as a first order principle having aligned themselves with “netdevops” or Network Reliability Engineering philosophies. You seek out or produce data to inform decision-making.

The ideal candidate has deep, extensive operations experience working with “webscale” networks and distributed systems, and/or with multinational carriers. The candidate can function independently, has natural curiosity, and a visible sense of leadership, ownership, and accountability; you want to know the network like the back of your hand, and will drive improvements daily. As an experienced Engineer, you love to pull up and mentor emerging talent, using your wealth of experience as an opportunity to help others be successful.

What You’ll Do:

  • As a networking subject matter expert, respond to critical infrastructure alerts and significant traffic events and incidents.
  • Reduce infrastructure build time and operational effort through collaborative improvements to automation.
  • Work collaboratively with project managers and suppliers in support of infrastructure build, augment, and decommission lifecycles and associated workstreams.
  • Improve telemetry and observability of the platform, working with partners in Infrastructure Reliability Engineering to surface and analyze actionable data from the network.
  • Write rigorous and thorough test and readiness plans, process runbooks, and change management guidelines.
  • Propose creative and unique solutions that improve the reliability and resiliency of the network.
  • Participate in a globally distributed, heavily remote team’s on-call rotation.

Requirements

What You Possess:

  • Be a good and kind person.
  • Believe in, and be capable of, forming tight partnerships with Engineering, R&D, Customer Support, and other important stakeholder groups.
  • Significant and progressive consumer webscale or multinational carrier engineering and operations experience.
  • Familiarity with cloud networking environments and experience with API-driven deployments.
  • An innate ability to discover corner cases and conceptualize failure scenarios, bringing your numerous years of “real world” experiences to bear.
  • Deep experience in common carrier-grade vendor platforms and technologies.
  • Expertise at a global level in network protocols such as MPLS, LDP, L2VPN, L3VPN, RSVP, RSVP-TE, SR, SR-TE, BGP, OSPF and IS-IS.
  • Demonstrable experience scaling and managing a global backbone.
  • Validated expertise with an object-oriented programming language: you do not have to be a distributed systems expert, but you must have experience beyond basic Python scripting.
  • Have experience with modern CI/CD practices. Git, Jenkins, Ansible are familiar tools to you.
  • Be eternally curious and open to technology and industry innovations, concepts, and associated problem-solving methodologies; you never stop developing your knowledge and abilities.
  • Have excellent verbal and written English communication skills.
  • Maintain a willingness to travel.

 Nice-To-Have:

  • Any one of:
  • CCIE-SP (Service Provider) or JNCIE-SP (Service Provider)
  • CCIE-ENT (Enterprise Infrastructure) or JNCIE-ENT (Enterprise Routing and Switching)
  • AWS Advanced Networking
