Why High-Performance Networks Choose Ethernet Now

At the OCP Global Summit 2025, DriveNets’ VP Product Marketing, Dudy Cohen, explores how Ethernet is expanding its reach beyond traditional scale-out and scale-across applications to challenge InfiniBand in the demanding scale-up domain.

Hi everyone.

We are here at the OCP Global Summit in San Jose and I think the main theme around this summit is networking and specifically the win and the adoption of Ethernet for any use case, be it scale out or scale out or scale across, which is already won by Ethernet, but also scale up. So for scale out and scale across, the barrier of Ethernet was mainly performance. And this is why InfiniBand was the default choice for many years. But today, as you heard from DriveNets, another vendor, the top performance of Ethernet has surpassed the performance of InfiniBand.

This is thanks to scheduled fabric, which is what DriveNets promotes. This is a technology that allows this high performance Ethernet for backend storage network. So for scale out and scale across, Ethernet is a clear winner. What we heard here in the summit this year is also that Ethernet is pursuing top spot in the scale up domain.

There’s a new initiative moving Ethernet thanks to this high performance introduced by DriveNets and others for Ethernet in this environment. So with this high performance Ethernet can come and be a valid solution for scale up networking and in which the performance requirements are much higher including low latency and predictability. So this is a very interesting moment for networking in the AI infrastructure domain and it is a very exciting event this year. Hope to see you next year. Thank you very much.
