Solution Overview for Edge Cloud

DriveNets Network Cloud changes the way networks are built, where a single architecture serves all network scenarios. This architecture allows operators to distribute network functions closer to the end subscriber, efficiently, in order to enable multiple edge services, including latency-sensitive applications.

Networking Optimized

Efficiently combine edge computing and edge networking

Low-Latency

Bring more services to the edge to allow time sensitive networking

Elastic Infrastructure

Answer varying traffic patterns and service requirements

Combining networking and compute resources over a shared, cloud-like infrastructure

The new network edge requires tight integration of edge computing and edge networking. As more and more latency-sensitive applications emerge – networking and compute functions need to move towards the network edge – closer to the end user.

This trend also optimizes traffic distribution across the network as content-delivery networks become more distributed and content instances also reside at the network edge.

This means that the network edge should efficiently handle applications, requiring computing resources, as well as a growing volume of traffic.

DriveNets Network Cloud for edge cloud architecture addresses these challenges by combining networking and compute resources over a shared, cloud-like infrastructure.  It allows operators to put greater functionality at the network edge, even in site with space and power limitations. This allows network and cloud operators to improve their service quality, enable new, latency-sensitive services and optimize the traffic distribution across their network.

DriveNets Edge Cloud Features

DriveNets edge cloud solution makes edge computing and edge networking highly scalable and cost/space efficient.

  • Elastic growth: Allows efficient scaling of the control plane independently from data plane to support extensive VPNs at the edge. Scalability granularity is in steps of 4Tbps – from one white box router to hundreds of white boxes-based router. With substantially simpler operations.
  • Optimized hardware and software for each networking plane via control & data plane separation, avoids monolithic router interdependencies and quality issues

Future proof, open standard, cloud-native architecture:

  • Open Compute Project (OCP) DDC-compliant hardware
  • Data and control planes disaggregation
  • Microservice architecture

DriveNets Edge Cloud Benefits

  • Lower footprint and power consumption with multiservice at the edge, fitting into the limited available space of edge sites.
  • Consolidated network aggregation, significantly reducing the hardware and intra-site connections
  • High availability with built-in self-healing mechanisms, distributed edge cloud architecture (no single point of failure).
  • Simplified operations with unified building blocks, orchestration and management
    • Zero-Touch Provisioning (ZTP)
    • Automated life-cycle management for seamless upgrades, health management and more.
  • Higher visibility, for management and diagnostics, from hardware component level to software container, with distributed fabric.
  • Significant reduction in total cost of ownership via lower cost hardware and more efficient software edge cloud architecture.
