About DriveNets:

DriveNets is a leader in cloud-native networking software for hyperscalers and service providers who are building the largest infrastructures in the world for network services, AI platforms and SaaS offerings. Founded in December 2015, DriveNets disrupted some of the most challenging high-scale markets, transforming the way networks are built, scaled, and consumed. DriveNets’ network cloud solution is deployed in more than half of AT&T’s backbone. DriveNets has raised $587 million in three funding rounds which enables us to dream big and bring on the most talented people.

The Role:

As the Director of Network Hardware Engineering, you will be responsible for working with DriveNets’ internal teams as well as the external design and manufacturing partners to specify, design, and produce the hardware SKUs upon which DriveNets’ software runs. Specifically, you will work collaboratively with DriveNets’ quality and reliability testing, engineering, and logistics teams to develop opto-electronic requirements, power and thermal performance, packaging, firmware, and pricing models.

You will also ensure that DriveNets’ hardware partners remain up to date with evolving network architectures, market trends, industry standards, and technology innovation as well as see to it that their ongoing developments are in line with current and future demand. Further, you will work with DriveNets’ external partners to contribute to the development of existing designs and right-size the cost capability ratio to DriveNets’ economic and business benefit.

Responsibilities:

  • Identify, initiate, drive, and lead network hardware engineering design and optimization tasks – they are not given to you.
  • Develop detailed technical hardware design specifications of the white boxes that underpin DriveNets’ ecosystem. The designs will maximize system performance while minimizing cost.
  • Work with our external and internal engineering and product partners collaboratively and transparently, ensuring our mutual customers benefit from the best possible engineering collaboration.
  • Interact with external design and manufacturing firms at both the detailed engineering level and as a collaborative business partner and negotiator.
  • Collaborate with internal product and commercial teams to improve the hardware global supply chain initiatives.
  • Own and maintain the schedule of deliverables, produce industry-leading documentation, conduct comprehensive product testing, supplier validation, and produce detailed designs for performance, testability, and manufacturability.
  • Source material and develop test infrastructure to validate design concepts.
  • Leverage substantial industry knowledge and relationships to drive new functionality into DriveNets’ supplier’s products and work with sales and product teams to guide them as they plan to integrate and test new features in advance of delivery by DriveNets.
  • Communicate effectively across the organizational hierarchy, ensuring technical and business concepts are well-understood by both technical staff and company leadership.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams on cost targets and the cost reduction roadmap, for both direct and indirect costs.
  • Leverage strategic partners to ensure DriveNets access to next generation technology at tier 1 pricing levels.
  • Ensure automatic system test coverage of the different design elements is sufficient to ensure zero field failures.
  • Work with product management, engineering, etc to develop forecasts, quality, lead times, value engineering, etc.
  • Some travel as needed.
